The Hill School Alumni Chapel
Project Background
The Hill School Alumni Chapel is one of the largest focal points within the school’s campus. The chapel was built approximately 100 years ago, and serves as a non-denomination church for campus residence. The building is constructed of brownstone veneer and brownstone dimensional features. The stained glass windows are bordered with stone tracery. All existing flashings are of copper material and the once slate roof has been replaced with asphalt shingles.
The Witmer Group’s scope included:
- Repointed stone veneer, crenelations and stone arch surrounds.
- Replacement of skyward facing joints to match adjacent surfaces.
- Cleaning of atmospheric and biological growth.
- Remove scaling from brownstone veneer.
- Repair existing brownstone with stainless steel dowel pins, consolidents and historical path material.
- Rebuilt full length cornice stone.
- Replacement of coping stones.
- Replace brown stone cross with precast.
- Dismantle, salvage and rebuild brownstone stairs and thresholds.
- Installation of brownstone scuppers.
- New counter and roof flashings.
- Installation of pan flashings below coping stones.
- Partial roof replacement- membrane and wood framing.
- Video inspection of exterior drains.
