About the owners and history of the Lappley Family-
Riverview Manor was designed by the prominent 20th century architects, Clayton J. Lappley. Son, Donald Lappley served as the longtime principal of the Harrisburg architectural firm. Among the many landmarks in Harrisburg and across Pennsylvania designed by Lappley is the elegant Riverview Manor apartment house at Front & Harris streets, which also housed the Lappley design studio and offices. The former studio space at Riverview Manor features a monumental wall mural, a unique hand-drawn collage of dozens of Lappley-design landmarks. Riverview Manor also was owned by the Lappley family from its construction in 1927 until its sale in 2010. When the Lappley’s sold Riverview Manor, Historic Harrisburg inherited a vast collection of framed architectural renderings of Lappley projects from the middle decades of the 20th century. These now can be seen at the Historic Harrisburg Resource Center in the Lappley exhibit.
