Project Background
This historic courthouse is decorated with ornate decals that complement its arched glass doors, flanked by Corinthian pilasters, highlighted with gilded medallions and intricate fretwork. Every detail speaks of craftsmanship and grandeur—except for the floors. The existing commercial VCT tile felt out of place, lacking the elegance that the rest of the space exuded.
Witmer Coatings was hired to change that. Our team installed a high-end metallic flooring system that seamlessly blends with the courthouse’s original aesthetic, mirroring the rich tones and veining of the adjacent marble hallway. To achieve this transformation, we began by diamond grinding the floors to abrade and profile the substrate, ensuring a strong foundation. Next, we applied an 8-mil layer of 100% solid epoxy primer, followed by a 40-mil coat of 100% solid epoxy infused with metallic pigment, creating a stunning, high-end finish. Finally, we sealed the surface with a 3-mil aliphatic urethane topcoat in a satin finish, adding both durability and subtle elegance.
The result? A perfect balance of beauty and function—where modern innovation meets classic architecture. The new flooring not only enhances the visual appeal of the space but also provides a long-lasting, easy-to-maintain surface that respects the integrity of this historic landmark.
