In March 2017, the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce & Industry moved into their new headquarters on 115 East King Street in historic downtown Lancaster city.
The Witmer Group provided restoration, waterproofing, and sealant to shelf angles; increased structural integrity at the foundation level; installed piers at the garage entrance; added interior partitions and decorative lintels; and provided exterior brick work which included removal, infill, and brick stain plus custom brick work and new brick veneers.
With any historic building time and wear can present some unexpected challenges. The crew handled the unforeseen conditions by reconfiguring the placement of materials. Specially shaped brick was used in order to fit the variances that appeared post demolition. This brick was also prepared to match the existing in both color and texture.
The inner-city setting was a challenge as the space did not allow for any forklifts. Therefore, materials were hand transported up the multiple flights of stairs or by rope and pulley. In addition, with the busy foot traffic passersby were protected by using debris netting. The new Chamber building was a celebrated transition. The Witmer Group was proud to be a part of the transformation.
