SOUTH CAPITOL PARK PROJECT – MASONRY RESTORATION

June 17, 2024 - Written by: Anna Ricciardi

Historic South Capitol Park is located to the south of the Pennsylvania State Capitol. The Park, which existed before the Capitol building itself, connects the Capitol complex with downtown Harrisburg and the Strawberry Square retail complex. Notable features on the site include the Mexican War, Hartranft, and Penrose monuments, granite stairs at the corners of Third and Walnut and Fourth and Walnut Streets, and gracious lawn areas dotted with specimen trees. The Witmer Restoration team is working on this historic park, to help preserve and restore the park’s beauty and essence. The scope of work consists of: New Asphalt Hex Pavers on Concrete Base, New Granite Cobblestone Gutter, Re-point Mortar joints at ex. Cobblestone Gutter, Repair Damaged Paver Areas, Repair Settled Paver Areas, Replace Damaged Asphalt Hex and Border Pavers in Poor Condition, install New Granite Garden, and more.

The photos below demonstrate the restoration team repairing and replacing damaged paver areas.
